  • I am looking for a domain name registrant. Where can I look it up?

    The Whois is an easy-to-use tool for checking the availability of a .nl domain name. If the domain name is already taken, you can see who has registered it.

    On the page looking up a domain name you will find more information about what a domain name is, how the Whois works and how the privacy of personal data is protected. Alternatively, you can go straight to look for a domain name via the Whois.

  • I would like to transfer my domain name to another registrar. What is the procedure?

    To get your domain name transferred, you need the token (unique ID number) for your domain name. Your existing registrar has the token and is obliged to give it to you within five days, if you ask for it. The procedure for changing your registrar is described on the page transferring your domain name.

  • The details registered about me/my company are incorrect or out of date. How can I get them updated?

    To update the contact details associated with your domain name, you need to contact your registrar. Read more about updating contact details.

  • Why is my domain name in quarantine?

    When a domain name is cancelled, we aren't told the reason, so we can't tell you. You'll need to ask your registrar. The advantage of quarantine is that, if a name's cancelled by mistake, you can always get it back.

    One common reason is that the contract between you and your registrar says you've got to renew the registration every year. If you haven't set up automatic renewal and you don't renew manually, the registration will expire.

  • Ik heb een klacht over mijn provider/registrar. Kan ik daarvoor bij SIDN terecht?

Digital Netherlands Festival: visit the new website for programme highlights

Shaping the Netherlands’ digital future together

The very first edition of the Digital Netherlands Festival is happening on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 November 2026. The festival is an independent event organised by ECP and SIDN to follow in the footsteps of the ECP Annual Festival and SIDN Inspire. It brings together key actors from the public and private sectors to chart a course for the Netherlands’ digital future. The Association of Registrars’ annual Domain Name Day will take place on Thursday 19 November as part of the second day of the Nederland Digitaal Festival.

Wednesday 18 November: in-depth study and collaboration

We’ll start with a concise afternoon programme in the form of an in-depth exploration of key topics for a select group of invited guests. Topics such as digital resilience, control, interoperability, cloud usage and digital infrastructure will take centre stage. During this session, we will bring together a small number of public and private sector organisations to seek better alignment between supply and demand. The aim will be not only to exchange knowledge, but also to identify concrete next steps. The full programme and venue for this part of the gathering will be announced at the end of the summer.

Thursday 19 November: a broad perspective on the digital society

Day 2 of the festival will take place at the Fokker Terminal in The Hague. We are expecting around 1,000 participants. We’ll explore pressing topical issues such as artificial intelligence and ethics, cybersecurity and trust, European digital autonomy, data and control, digital government and public services, and the relationship between digitisation and sustainability. The wide-ranging programme is intended to provide inspiration and practical support for professionals working to build tomorrow’s digital society.

Domain Name Day on Thursday 19 November during the Nederland Digitaal Festival

The Association of Registrars’ annual Domain Name Day will also form part of the Nederland Digitaal Festival on Thursday, with a ‘registrar-only’ programme in the morning and a programme open to a wider audience in the afternoon. By linking Domain Name Day to the festival, the Association of Registrars aims, on the one hand, to offer its members the familiar and highly regarded event and, at the same time, to provide access to a wider network and the opportunity to actively contribute to discussions on the digital future of the Netherlands. Registrars will shortly receive a ‘save the date’ notice for Domain Name Day with further details of the programme.

New festival website
