For your SIDN internship, you’ll be attached to the small but diverse Data Team. Using a recently migrated data platform, our 2 data engineers, BI specialist and product owner provide data-based support to the entire organisation. We work closely with Support, Marketing, the MT and R&D to provide intelligence, align definitions and share reporting capacity.
At the moment, we’re busy building up our bronze, silver and gold layers. That means lots of scope for you to learn and contribute, whether that’s by setting up SQL-based data models or building dashboards in PowerBI.
Internship Track 1: Analytics Engineer (Silver Layer)
Your role
Contributing to development and refinement of the silver layer in our Databricks platform
Writing SQL scripts for compiling raw data to create clean, consistent datasets
Helping the BI specialist to design dimensional tables for the gold layer
Working closely with the data engineers (who know the source data well) and the BI specialist (who translates business needs)
Liaising with R&D about data models and shared definitions
What you’ll learn
Advanced SQL techniques in a real-world production environment
How silver-layer datasets form the basis of reliable reports
Experience with Databricks, Jira and Agile working (stand-ups, reviews, retros)
Why accuracy and clear assumptions are crucial in dataset development
Internship Track 2: Data Analyst (Gold Layer & Reports)
Your role
Building gold-layer views and dashboards in PowerBI
Writing SQL queries to build the datasets needed for reports
Working with the BI specialist (and sometimes the data engineers) to translate business questions into clear reports
Talking to stakeholders in Support, Marketing, R&D and the MT to clarify their questions and make sure data is interpreted correctly
Contributing to actual reporting projects, e.g.: historical details of domains, registrants and transactions across the whole market, as fast and as up-to-date as possible
Market intelligence: performance, trends, benchmarking and prognoses for market segments, holdings and our customers
What you’ll learn
Practical experience of building impactful dashboards in PowerBI
How to link SQL queries to business-oriented reports
Experience with Databricks, Jira and Agile working
Translating complex datasets into usable insights for a variety of stakeholders
