Jon PostelJon Postel founder of the DNS

He founded and served as a Director of IANA, the organisation that is responsible for top-level domains and IP addresses, as well as for the Domain Name System (DNS). Indeed, the DNS – without which the internet could never have become what it is today – was Postel's idea. He continued to manage the DNS for many years. In that role, on 25 April 1986 he delegated administrative control of the newly created .nl top-level domain to Piet Beertema of the CWI. Jon Postel died on 16 October 1998.
